When Anthony Albanese accused Labor Senator Fatima Payman of stirring up
racism because of her support for the Palestinians, it was one more
glaring example of the governments ongoing attempt to cover up Israels
crimes against humanity in the West Bank and Gaza, and to perpetuate
Israels murderous rampage against defenceless Palestinians. As such the Australian government is collaborating in an act of genocide with Israel against the Palestinian people.
In line with this cover-up, the government has announced the setting up of
a commission with the purported task of tracking anti-Semitism which will
in fact be an enforcement police for outlawing all criticism of Israel.
Such laws are an attempt to contain the ongoing and growing actions
against Israels crimes: laws are being introduced giving the state the
power to ban protests. This is done with an eye to the wider community as
the pain of the economic crisis increases while tens of billions of
dollars are poured into the bottomless pit of the military budget (more
than $40 billion so far on nuclear submarines alone).
Australia is now a cog in the US wheel for this region: It is a vision of
US naval power projection in the region that the Albanese government
shares. The vision is that settler colonial and ex-colonial powers the G7-AUKUS should be the ones making the rules of the current
international order. Behind the talk of an international rules-based order
is the mailed fist of the US, NATO, and AUKUS. This is what Australias
nuclear submarine deal really means.
ARMING ISRAEL
Human rights group Amnesty International is calling for an end to the
transfer of arms to Israel. Amnesty says because of Australias opaque approval process, we dont know what exactly is being exported from
Australia.
The government has consistently claimed that Australia has not exported
weapons to Israel for 5 years. But the government hasnt confirmed whether weapons parts manufactured in Australia have been approved for export
where Israel will be the end user of the weapon.
Thats a problem because Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of the F-35
fighter jet, has said that every F-35 built contains some Australian
parts and components.
Amnesty warns Israels bombardment is rendering Gaza uninhabitable. The Australian government must do everything in their power to prevent
genocide. They must commit to not approve the export of any weapons parts
where the Israeli Defence Force is the end user of the export.
Already, Canada, Spain, and Belgium have halted arms exports to Israel. Together, we can ensure nothing manufactured in Australia contributes to
death and destruction in Gaza.
ISRAELS NUKES
Israels policy of a greater Israel and its seizure of Palestinian land
has been made possible only by the massive financing and arming of Israel
by the United States and some European governments. The United States sees Israel as its military arm in the Middle East to be able to threaten and control the surrounding Arab states.
Israel built up its nuclear weapons arsenal with the approval of the
western countries, including Australia. There was no campaign against
Israel over its enrichment of uranium as has been going on against Iran
and North Korea. There was no demand that Israel should subscribe to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and Israel has never been a party to that treaty.
Lip service has been given by Israel, the United States, Australia, and European governments to a two state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. But every attempt to hold meaningful negotiations to fulfil this objective is met with provocations coming from the Israeli side.
Furthermore, the continuous building of new Jewish settlements on Arab
lands has already made a mockery of any claims about a just settlement. Operation al-Aqsa Flood, the major offensive led by Hamas on 7 October,
came in retaliation for the ongoing Israeli pogroms in the West Bank town
of Huwwara and in Jerusalem, especially by settlers storming al-Aqsa
mosque during the Jewish High Holy Days over the previous month, and in
the context of Israels ongoing siege against Gaza itself for more than a decade and a half.
The Arab peoples defend themselves with every means at their disposal.
Their struggle for the creation of a Palestinian state free from
interference and the threat and actual use of military aggression, is
perfectly legitimate.
