    6pm Italy time :

That was QUICK ... but I guess with the health
of Francis they had time to think about it.

WHO ? Everyone is waiting in front of
the cathedral at the Vatican, umpteen
thousands in the square, on the roofs,
estimated 50k onlookers acc to BBC.

Catholic or not, religious or not, Popes
    are *consequential*, important, influential.
No other religion has anything quite so
relevant. The Dali Lama is perhaps close,
but he has deliberately been more of a
background figure - Buddhism is typically
not as strident, not so public.

One of the main issues has been whether they
will elect another Wokie or go more traditional.

    . . .

Yikes ! The new pope is AMERICAN also with
Peruvian citizenship, and has a rep for being
a 'moderate' and was favored by Francis. He
has spent most of his life in Peru.

    Robert Prevost.

    Official name is "Leo 14th"

    Catholics tried "more traditional"
with Benedict, the cold shoulder he
got from Catholics worldwide was enough
    to make him quit.

    Catholics don't WANT "traditional".
They want the humility and compassion
that Jesus taught, not imperial finery and
    a obey-as-you-are-told papacy.

Catholics ... hell, everybody ... wants
"super easy". Actually having to DO or
SACRIFICE anything for a religion is,
    well, DIFFICULT.

So, were we looking at bad Catholic doctrine,
    or LAZY-ASS modern Catholics ???

Ask any Catholic you know if they
    liked Benedict or Francis better.

Word is that President Trump says the election was fixed and that he's the
    real new Pope.

Some say the smoke wasn't really white, but gray. A sign of a hoax.

    That's not answering the question.

LAZY-ASS Catholics - PLENTY. REAL Catholics,
    as said, THAT takes EFFORT.

So, in context, less "like" probably equals
    MORE CATHOLIC.
