Beijing’s latest military drills near Taiwan have sparked
discussions on the island's energy security if simmering
cross-strait tensions boil over. How long can Taiwan keep
powering itself in case of a blockade by China?
. . .
Seems the entire place runs almost entirely on
imported LNG. Nuke was never much and PV panels,
well ... ain't gonna cut it mostly. It's a
heavily urbanized pop, and cities suck mass
quantities of energy.
As seen a week back in Spain and Portugal, no
power means NO NOTHIN' in this modern world.
The food quickly goes bad, no electronic
services, all the stuff at the hospitals
won't work. Water stops, sewers back up ...
get the picture ?
As an island with no real native energy sources
Taiwan is VERY vulnerable to a Chinese blockade.
Estimates that reserves would last under a month
even with conservation measures. Then, it's all
over. The USA might force some warships past a
Chinese blockade, but not that constant stream
of LNG tankers. Probably not many FOOD shipments
either.
