    . . .

Um ... but how do you deal with taxes and
such that yield sub-nickel tabs ??? Do
you round down, or UP ???

Admittedly probably half the pennies in the
country are in big plastic water-jugs or
something. No real purchase power ... but
they CAN make the tabs balance.

Hmmm ... how about PLASTIC pennies ?
Good re-use of water bottles and such.
Put some kind of micro-barcode or
hologram in there to discourage easy fakes.

Pennies cost 3 and 1/2 cents to produce. Nickels cost 17 cents to
produce so they're even more "wasteful."

Next they'll be wanting to get rid of all coins and just "round it up to
a dollar." Pols gotta fuck the poor over at every opportunity especially Republicans.

In a statement issued by the Oregon senator, Merkley said that the continuing production of pennies is the opposite of "common cents" in the use of taxpayer
    dollars.

    He made a funny!

No, not at all you stupid subhuman communist filth.

METAL is expensive these days - be it gold or silver
or fuckin' zinc. Stamping metal takes energy and
tough dies. Copper-plating zinc pennies is expensive.

"Plastic pennies" are THE way to go. Not WORTH it

    bit secure.

Oh wait, you leftists don't WANT cash - only electronic

What metal is used in the Trump "coins"
and the Trump "medalions" and the Trump "watch"?

All made in China, of course.

No, not at all, you superior man.

Yes, you *stupid* subhuman Nazi filth cipher. It costs 3.7¢ to make a penny. It
can cost up to 3¢ to make one new plastic water bottle from new raw materials, and it's *more expensive* to make one from recycled plastic. Obviously there would be less plastic in a coin, but your barcode technology isn't cheap, *and* there would be the huge cost to businesses of putting in the barcode readers.

*Why* are you still affecting this absurdly comic pose of being a pseudo-sage? You pretend to know a lot about pretty much everything, and in fact you know next to nothing about anything.

    Filthy mindless commie scum ...

    A neo-penny doesn't require an entire bottle's worth
of plastic. Even better, you should use WASTE bottles
and other PET containers ... so, really, you're saving
the environment by making the pennies - otherwise they
just sit in a landfill, wasted $$$ forever.

I'd have to do some calx, but I'm gonna guess you can
make the mentioned plastic pennies for maybe 0.1 cents.
Good deal - and they'd last a good decade.

Gonna have to compose a proposal to Treasury ... the
TECH has been around for 25+ years, but the IDEA seems
to be neglected. Pennies, nickels, dimes - plastic.

    Round to the nearest.

    54 becomes 50, 55 becomes 60.

Nobody's gonna put up with rounding UP ...

Anyway, as I said to Cliff's brain-dead ghost,
what a better way to re-cycle all those old
water bottles ! Neo pennies/dimes/niks for
    CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP ...

Ban the Penny comes up every now and then, like a
bad penny returning. Never gains traction. In
WWII they used steel for a couple years (but
that was because copper was a strategic material).
