• Is Coffee Becoming a "Luxury" Drink ? Trade Wars

Noting news, it looks like coffee is going to become
more of a "luxury" drink - more for the higher-income
bracket. Tariffs and such are affecting import prices
    considerably.

Only Hawaii is suitable for growing coffee ... but
cannot make nearly enough to keep up with demand.

Oh, and those "pod" brewers ... most of the pods
come from the EU, Italy especially.

Wonder if Trumps conference with Meloni covered
    any of that ?

I understand Trump's "nuke war" plan for tariffs,
but in practice I don't see it working out as well
as he hoped. The rest of the world seems more
interested in working AROUND the US markets than
caving in to Trump. Bully tactics SOMETIMES work,
but can also provoke stiff resistance too.

Tariffs COULD have been used in an 'incremental'
fashion instead - getting higher OVER TIME. This
would have provided more time for everyone to
come to agreements and such. As is - all too quick,
we see emergency tactics rather than agreements.

Trump is good - but not infallible. Alas for
political reasons he really can't be seen as
"blinking first". That goes triple for China.

Trump is a chimp with a machine gun.
He consults no one, he thinks he is the
world expert on everything. And when he
screws up - backtraking on teriffs,
rehiring the "waste fraud abuse" people
he just fired, insulting allies and
then asking favors from them - his MAGAs
just assume that was his plan all along.

    That goes triple for China.

If China is our enemy why does TRump
ship all his manufacturing jobs there?

China is already making new trade deals with countries like Brazil and Argentina. So I guess we'll once again be using those precious
"taxpayer dollars" the right is always so concerned about to subsidize
    American farmers.

Just like in President Shit-for-Brain's first term.

Japan and South Korea have joined China, a Chinese company controls
the Canal, the Chinese have made great inroads in Asia and Africa with
    their Silk Road plan.

Trump has just handed them domination of the planet.

    They had it already ....

    Well, not ENTIRELY, but *enough*.

Funny bit, it was 'capitalist logic' that put
them in that position. US/EU biz offshored like
mad to save a penny. Perfect economic sense.

Predictable outcome - LONG known, but the
quarterly reports are all they cared about.

Marx predicted that capitalism would destroy
    itself.

China is not really "communist" of course, but
regardless it now has a monopoly on a LOT of
    important stuff.

    Blame Nixon.

    Under Reagan capitalists offshored
    manufacturing to crush unions. Trump
wants to bring it back, following which
    capitalists will offshre it again.

    Heck, even Trump himpself offshores
    his manufacturing jobs.

No, a Chinese company does not control the canal. A Chinese company owns and operates two of five ports that are adjacent to the canal. The company does not have any measure of operational control of the canal itself, and of course there
are three other ports adjacent to the canal that are neither owned nor operated by any Chinese entity.

Because China has a plan and Trump doesn't.
