President Donald Trump is building a Golden Dome missile
defense shield, which will cost hundreds of billions of
dollars to cover the entire globe and monitor enemy
threats to the US.
The state-of-the-art defense structure could be up and
running as early as 2026, with Elon Musk's SpaceX company
partnering with software maker Palantir and drone builder
Anduril to build key parts of the Golden Dome, six sources
told Reuters.
SpaceX's integral involvement in the project - which is
expected to cost Musk $10 billion - would include building
and launching more than 1,000 satellites around the globe
to sense missiles and track their movements.
Another trailblazing fleet of around 200 attack satellites
armed with precision missiles or lasers would then bring
down threatening enemy missiles, according to sources.
The decision process is still in its early days, and who is
selected to work on certain elements could change - but
the Pentagon said that parts of the Golden Dome could be
operational from next year, with other parts delivered by 2030.

Neither Vlad or Xi will put up with anything that
can block most of their missiles. There was a good
reason for the old treaty limiting anti-missile
systems ... they were too "destabilizing".
So, while I don't think this system really CAN be
implemented anytime soon, if at all, Vlad and Xi
have to make a choice - attack us NOW or find
some sneaky ways AROUND the system. They surely
have spies deeply embedded and WILL get useful
design/operational details.
If they CAN get around it then there's little reason
to build the system in the first place. If they nuke
us now, well ......
And sorry folks, but if you need to launch stuff
then Musk's your go-to guy.
Musk DID have an interesting idea of how to PAY
for it however .... the system will be able to
protect more than just the USA, so SELL SUBSCRIPTIONS
to get coverage.
There have been worries about space-based weapons
since the 1950s. Make it all too quick and easy
to start something - so pols/mils WILL do so,
won't be able to resist.
"GoldenDome" was inspired by Israel's very effective
IronDome. However neither Russia or China CARE if
Israel can shield itself but DO worry about the
USA/EU. If ICBMs won't work then the only obvious
fixes are flat-trajectory sub-launched at close
range or maybe smuggling bombs into other countries.
