Too funny!
This is WHY our WTO based trade system keeps the peace.
We're as dependent on the stuff China makes as China is on the stuff
we have:
Dollar$
Everybody wants dollars in order to easily trade. We supply those
dollars. That gives us a lot of control.
Trump is throwing away that control.
He's destroying Pax Americana.
It is a demonstration of why you must not
offshore industries/supply-trains vital to
national defense to your ENEMIES.
There is merit to the idea that "You don't
attack people you do good business with".
Such actions make wars less profitable in
several dimensions.
However this approach does not ensure that wars
cannot start - indeed we've been watching China
arm out the ass and it SAYS its goal is to take
not only Taiwan but much of that corner of the
world - which China rationalizes that it somehow
owns. WW2 hatred against Japan has been kept
alive as well.
So ... we let ourselves get very over-dependent
on a hostile emerging power with interests that
are NOT in our interest.
Madness.
Blame Nixon if you want, but every admin since
then has contributed to the problem.
There ARE chip factories in the USA and EU/UK.
NVidia says it's going to open a US factory as
fast as possible too. However is this enough,
fast enough, to handle the mil impact of a
ChinaChip (& probably TaiwanChip) cut-off ???
Oh, finally, how many of the ChinaChips made
over the past decade are sabotaged in some
way or another ? Spyware ? Programmed failure ?
Hell, even yer Mr. Coffee is now probably
"connected", ioT .......
We DO need good mil drones, LOTS of them. Small
or large, smart of stupid, they're going to be
a huge part of the future military equation and
we can't afford to get behind. Lots of small,
maybe even autonomous, "drone carriers" are a
smart investment. The most sophisticated will
require "AI" to some degree - but where are
the western factories for such chips in
quantity ?
Trump kinda HAD to shake up the equation. His
kinda nuclear approach has some good and bad
aspects however - does too much damage to
allies and screws up the China equation sooner
than was totally wise. But, would anything else
have done it ? The biz approach was to just wait
out "Made in USA" initiatives and then invest
more in China. Can't HAVE that anymore.
