The tourists killed in yesterdays NYC spectacular chopper
crash - it was the CEO of Siemens and fam.
Siemens is a BIG concern, makes lots of the industrial-
control systems for the world.
Someone THAT high up plus a really weird mystery chopper
crash ... GOTTA suspect serious skull-duggery now ! Just
TOO much for a 'random chance' dodge !

Looks like the "Jesus Nut/Bolt" let go.
Also that model chopper is known for the rotor blades chopping off the
tail under certain conditions.
Don't know for sure, so just a guess.

MOST likely a mechanical/design issue - or just
piss-poor maint.
However the relative importance of the victim
also introduces sabotage/assassination into the
equation.
Note that Siemens industrial-process controllers
were hacked by the USA to trash Iranian uranium
centrifuges - kinda set back their program a long
way actually. Was THIS guy involved somehow ?
I think Iran went to hybrid Chinese/Homebrew
controllers after that.
If the rotor blades are too flexible, certain
extreme maneuvers COULD tilt them back far
enough to hit the tail section. However this
is NOT anything common and there's no known
reason for any 'extreme maneuver' here. The pilot
had been a SEAL and ought to know his machine.
ANYway - more than enough govt and private security
cams around Manhattan will have caught all this and
should be able to verify everything from a number
of angles.
The proverbial "Jesus Nut" IS a common weakness on
choppers - a single point for total failure. They
still use the single large nut mostly because a
number of smaller bolts aren't as strong and may
suffer fatigue issues kinda invisibly. On the
flip, Chinese COUNTERFEIT bolts/nuts ARE a known
disaster-in-waiting and HAVE been for decades.
You can stamp anything on a bolt ... crap metal
suddenly becomes high-rated and there's no
convenient way to TEST every one.
Video DID show the rotor coming down, seemingly
intact. They're fishing for it now.
Oooooooh ! Maybe it hit one of the Jersey UFOs !!!

My neighbor's son is in Air National Guard and he maintains Blackhawk
copters and was the first to tell me about the "Jesus Nut or Bolt".
Personally I wouldn't get in any copter unless it was Marine One.

I never get on choppers ... they're too mechanically
complex and MUCH less forgiving of failures than
fixed-wing. They DO have "their place" - but that does
not mean I'm gonna use one for a stupid tour or whatever.
There are 'NOTAR' - No-Tail-Rotor - choppers. Either the
jet exhaust, or a secondary turbine running off the engine
create an airstream and there's basically just a directional
baffle to point it left or right. Either way, needs extra
power. I've also heard, but no personal experience, that
they don't turn so snappy.
Years back at a place I was working, another agency landed
a rather crude-looking chopper on our front lawn. They
offered rides. On examination the drive for the tail rotor
was short segments - with like a dozen+ U-joints. Me,
and the company chief mechanic, refused to fly on the thing :-)
If you want industrial-tough choppers - look to Russia.
Simple, overbuilt, big engines and fuck fuel economy.
