World's second largest automaker makes dramatic move as it stops
    all US car imports

Volkswagen is holding cars at US ports amid tariff turmoil.

Audi, the luxury arm of the world's second largest global
automaker, has confirmed it's in a high-stakes holding pattern
triggered by President Donald Trump's 25 percent tariff on
    imported vehicles.

The affected cars arrived in the US the same day Trump announced
the sweeping levies. Now, they sit idle as VW considers its
    next move.

Executives are thought to be hoping for either a presidential
U-turn or a chance to negotiate a lower rate.

It's the latest shot across the bow from VW. The company said
it will display new 'import fee.'

    . . .

Sorry, but most American cars DO and WILL *suck*.
Those corps just STOPPED CARING a LONG time ago.
Euros WON'T buy them, no 'barriers' needed.

You're really MUCH better off with an import ...
VWs ain't that great, but Toyota's, Honda's and
    Subaru's ARE a step up.

I know Honda and Toyota DO have US plants ... but
still lots of the little PARTS come from the
homeland, and are thus subject to high tariffs.
Might take a year, or two, to shift those little
parts to a US production line. Don't think they
are gonna bother - too much bullshit.

The highest domestic content vehicle sold in the US is the Honda
Passport at 73%. The Chevy Silverado was dragging butt at 39%
    domestic content.

Chevy ... basically all Mexican now ... Ford not
    much better in that respect.

Anyhow, Honda's are good and, if really at 73% already,
will have a much easier time of it. Perhaps soon THE
    "foreign" car in the USA.

But if you want Euro sports cars, well, ready to pay
the price ? If you've got that much money, consider
something like a late '50s Corvette instead - still
think those were the best style.
