• Boeing Astronauts Blame JOE For Being Stranded So Long

NASA's stranded astronauts have put on a brave face throughout
their uncertain nine-month stay on the International Space Station -
but that appeared to slip in a recent interview.

Barry Wilmore seemed to suggest he and his crewmate Sunita Williams
had been caught up in political games in Washington.

SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk, whose spaceflight company was
tasked with bringing Williams and Wilmore home later this month,
has repeatedly said the Biden administration 'abandoned' them
    for 'political reasons.'

Musk has also said that former president Joe Biden rejected
his offer to bring the astronauts home early because it
would've made Donald Trump and his supporters 'look good.'

    . . .

Between de-Woking 'X' and throwing in with Trump, Joe's
people did everything they could to screw Musk. Even
cut him out of conferences about EVs.

    And ALSO screwed those astronauts.

Freshly Ex NASA director Bill Nelson seems to doubt
that, but we'll see as more Biden docs come to light.

Astronaut Sunita Williams is concerning people, esp
her family, because she just hasn't looked very well
the past few months. Might just be 0-G effects, or
might not. SHE says she's OK.

Interesting thing Musk said ... that the DOJ actually
had a big lawsuit against SpaceX - FOR NOT HIRING
"ASYLUM-SEEKERS". How many OTHERS were likewise
    pressured to suck-up to Joe's open-borders BS ???
THIS could be very interesting !

    It had to go.

I agree. The design of the stack was a huge danger, one that ultimately resulted in the loss of two shuttles.

For _Challenger_: if the shuttle had been at the top of the stack, it
could have survived the explosion intact, separated, and glided
    to a landing.

For _Columbia_: Tiles were damaged from chunks of the insulation of the
main tank hitting the shuttle. If it were at the top of the stack,
the tiles would not have been damaged. And once on-orbit, there was
nothing they could do to repair damaged tiles.

They don't build them like that anymore. Thankfully.

I don't trust Musk, but I do trust SpaceX and the people
in its employ. Just as long as Musk keeps his sticky paws off
    the processes, SpaceX will succeed.

But Williams and Wilmore did not get "left in
space," as Trump and Musk have repeatedly
maintained, and neither offered any evidence
to support the claim of political interference.
And the "stranded" part doesn't hold up to
scrutiny, as NASA has long had a plan to bring
the duo home — and it already involves SpaceX.

“NASA has decided that Butch and Suni will
return with Crew-9 next February, and that
    Starliner will return uncrewed,” NASA
Administrator Bill Nelson said on Aug. 24.

NASA is not low earth orbit AMTRAK. The argument was if it worth
doing it would be worth private businesses doing.

NASA is heavily involved in airliner design. It does not build or
fly them. It does research that benefits all airlines and
manufacturers and publishes public domain so that anyone can take
advantage. The purpose of the Shuttle was to investigate reusable
spacecraft. They had discoverred all they could, and it was time
to publish and let private businesses exploit it for profit.

NASA is currently involved in manned moon missions. Once it cracks
every problem and make moon missions routine, yes, again, they
will publish and let private businesses take over.

If Bush hadn't killed our space
    shuttle program

The space shuttle was obsolete and dangerous.

So America threw away it's [sic] ability
    to put men in orbit.

No, it didn't. Musk has a rocket and space capsule that can go to and
from the ISS, and Boeing's is close to being ready. In fact, Boeing's
Starliner capsule is what *took* the two astronauts to the ISS.

The shuttle was obsolete, extremely dangerous and ruinously expensive.

    +1
I agree completely. These various mishaps with rockets are unfortunately
part of the learning process and level set the truth about the technology in that we have so much to learn.
When you think about it, the astronauts are literally strapped to a gigantic bomb which in and of itself is super dangerous.
As the science advances we will eventually develop safer propulsion systems.

If Bush hadn't killed our space
    shuttle program no Americans would
    be "stranded" in space.

They would just die in shuttle disintegrations.

And now all our astronauts have to
learn Russian because only Russia can
get them to the ISS. So much for America
    leading the way.....
    doers d>

And now you're wrong again. SpaceX regularly sends missions to the
ISS. As of today it has conducted about 13 crewed missions and 30
    cargo missions.

All the Space X passengers are
NASA astronauts, required to learn Russian.
    Yes, and?

The Russian space program pretty much requires a functional level of
english from its astronauts. Learning it might be difficult, but
astronauts are a fairly bright lot. Learning english is probably the
least stressful part of the mission.

Even Space X cannot rescue the
    astronauts stranded by Boeing. NASA
remains helpless to put men in orbit,
or rescue them, after the shuttle
    cancellation by Bush.

Say what???? SpaceX is going to retrieve the astronauts Wilmore and
    Williams later this month.

Really ! It's like a decade behind the times.

SpaceX can do all the ISS stuff just fine.
Boeing was trying ... but. NASAs super rocket
is about ready. In short things are getting
good for for the US program.

Despite it's size, Ariane has never been fitted
for human transport. Not sure why. The ESA is
perfectly capable of building a 3-5 person
capsule, maybe even a micro-shuttle design.

WHEN SpaceX finally gets StarShip in workable
condition it can lift BIG sections of a brand
new space station. A much faster assembly job
than with the ISS. Hey, may even be aesthetic
instead of that 'collection of Bud Lite cans'
    thing with the ISS :-)

Hmmm ... wonder what the harmonics of the ISS
are now ... tap one bit all all the other bits
hangin' out there at random angles will shake,
maybe a lot depending. A more symmetrical new
    station might reduce such effects.
