FBI warns iPhone and Android users to immediately hang up or
delete the text if they receive these messages

The FBI is warning iPhone and Android users about a string
of new scams that could put bank accounts and personal data
    at risk.

Federal officials say smartphone users should hang up immediately
if they receive this specific type of call, in which the scammer
is pretending to be someone they're not.

The new scheme is more advanced than previous scam calls
because scammers are using 'spoof' caller ID technology to
impersonate banks and law enforcement agencies across the
    country.

Some of the fraudsters are reportedly even pretending to
be members of US Customs and Border Protection.

Officials explain that once the victim starts talking with
these phony agents, the scammer will pressure them into
transferring money to the agency they're pretending to
    represent.

    . . .

    Never-ending ......

Hmmm ... in the movie "Fifth Element" you could
dial-back a number and have the phone explode.
Maybe something like that ? :-)

ALSO - the tech to SPOT CID "spoofing" exists.
The trick generally involves TWO CID transmissions.

The scammers beat the REAL one to the gate, and
the phone accepts THAT. A simple timing tweak
would get rid of most of that kind of spoof or
at least WARN of them - but nobody DOES it even
though it's just a few lines of software code
    (my biz so I know).

    Wonder why ?
