NEWARK -- A 35-year-old city man has been arrested in connection to three separate rapes, officials said Thursday.
Kervin Joseph Michel is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on multiple charges of first degree aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, kidnapping and attempted sexual assault, said Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the
Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities said that from Nov. 2015 to December 2015, Michel allegedly raped two women and one 13-year-old child at their respective homes in Newark and Irvington.
Michel also stands accused of attempting to rape a fourth woman at her home in Newark in December. In that incident, Michel allegedly forced himself into the victim's car and took her to another location, where he attempted to assault her, officials said.
An investigation into the assaults by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Special Victim's Unit, revealed a pattern in the incidents, a revelation that ultimately led to Michel's arrest, Carter said. Police officers from Newark, East Orange and
Irvington aided in the investigation, she added.
Additional details of the investigation were not immediately made available.
