President Donald Trump announced that Japan’s Nippon Steel
would invest heavily in U.S. Steel rather than purchase the
company, reversing a $14.9 billion takeover proposal blocked
    by the Biden administration.

In early January, then-President Joe Biden blocked Nippon’s
bid for U.S. Steel over “national security concerns,”
    reported CNBC.

President Biden said at the time that the acquisition “would
place one of America’s largest steel producers under foreign
control and create risk for our national security and our
    critical supply chains.”

Although President Trump agreed with Biden’s decision,
Friday’s announcement comes as what Trump deems a mutually
beneficial compromise between both sides, “They’ll be looking
at an investment rather than a purchase. … They’ve agreed
to invest heavily in U.S. Steel, as opposed to own it.”

    . . .

This is the better deal. If the shit hits the fan then
we still own US Steel and its facilities. Japan can
put money in, and profit from being in, but ultimate
    control remains in the USA.

US Steel is one of those "strategic assets" - CAN'T
let potential enemies, or victims of said enemies,
have total control or, worse, dismantle everything.

We still need more high-tech HERE. Also have to
maintain the ability to make vehicles/planes and
    vital infrastructure components HERE.

Japan has become a friend and ally.

"Has become"? Japan has been for 70 years, you stupid fucktard.

However, we still need to become more self sufficient.

    Bullshit. Autarky is stupid.

Too many critical items, drugs for example,

Bullshit. *Most* drugs are created by and manufactured by U.S. firms.

You don't know what the fuck you're bullshitting about.
