My landscapers were here bright and early this morning plowing the snow

This is very simple.
The tariffs imposed on the US by some other countries are excessive.
Trump is trying to level the playing field and he is going extreme
in order to do this.
I've said from the beginning that tariffs can be used as a negotiating point and that is precisely what is happening.

People are simply getting too far down into the weeds.
If only that had actually happened.
This is very simple.
Certainly is: there's two tariff rates relevant to US passenger vehicle imports from EU: automobiles & SUVs/Light Trucks. Its relevant because
half of passenger vehicles sold in the USA aren't autos but SUVs/LT's.
Pothead chose to only mention the lower rate (automobiles; 2%) and
ignored the higher rate (SUVs/LTs; 25%) ... and got caught.
The tariffs imposed on the US by some other countries are excessive.
The 2024 EU tariff rate on US vehicle exports to EU is 10%. But when
using a 50/50% distribution on EU exported cars & SUVs, the US import
tariff rate is (2%+25%/2) = 13.5%
Trump is trying to level the playing field and he is going extreme
in order to do this.
Except that as we can see above, US import tariffs were already higher
than EU's: so much for claiming that the rates are "unfair" to the USA.
I've said from the beginning that tariffs can be used as a negotiating point
and that is precisely what is happening.
Sure, but that's also a self-contradicting messaging: Enterprise needs
a reliable tariff rate to make business decisions on if re-shoring would
be feasible ... but if Trump's going to change (lower) them via
negotiating, then they're frozen from making any commitment to re-shore.
Once we all stop the my father can beat up your father peeing contests

In 2024, US exported goods to Zimbabwe worth $43.8m, which was subject
to a 11.37% tariff rate.
Thus, in exchange for $6T worth of self-inflicted Market loss, American businesses have saved ... $4.98M. What a DEAL! /s
Even if you repeated that 1000x more times, you're still $1T underwater.

More pain more gain. idjt is destroying citizens!
This is how he saves us.
Angel Gabriel explains to Constantine why he is raising the devil.
[Gabriel holds Constantine helpless]
Gabriel: You're handed this precious gift, right? Each one of you
granted redemption from the Creator - murderers, rapists, and
molesters - all of you, you just have to repent, and God takes
you into His bosom. In all the worlds in all the universe, no
other creature can make such a boast, save man. It's not fair.
[leans closer]
Gabriel: If sweet, sweet God loves you so, then I will make you
worthy of His love. I've been watching for a long time. It's only
in the face of horror that you truly find your nobler selves. And
you can be so noble. So, I'll bring you pain, I'll bring you
horror, so that you may rise above it. So that those of you who
survive this reign of hell on earth will be worthy of God's love.
John Constantine: Gabriel, you're insane!
Gabriel: [smiles] The road to salvation begins tonight. Right now.
[Gabriel blows, sending Constantine crashing through the door]

Balance of trade is no amenable to tariffs. Tariffs make it worse
as we learned with Smoot Hawley.
Balance of trade can be treated by offerrings treats to invest in

New car sales would slow as prices go up. Those customers would enter

Yax and c186282 have both been around a long time. Both tend to make,
more or less, reasonable statements from a right wing perspective. Yak
will almost always engage in honest dialog. C used to do that, but
lately, when confronted with any sort of logical question or request
for cites, mutters some inane comment about TDS and runs away. I
haven't seen him engage in dialog for quite a long time now.
The others, yeah, they're trolls and I don't know why we waste any
discussion time responding to them. It means we aren't talking about important stuff like Medicare cuts in Trump's Big, Beautiful, Bill.
I can hardly believe the stupid Democrats allowed it to pass.

My definition of a long thread is one page down (via the spacebar in slrn). >>
If the response to the troll is not there yet, "Next!"
Trolls get one page down, posters who make sense get three. Anybody
who can't figure out how to edit the top three pages needs to find a
hobby that doesn't involve English composition.
I hate it when a poster I usually read drops five pages to post one
line. EDIT! I edited this one without any loss of content or
context.

Not to mention all the pages of rules built up over 250 of Congresses.
Imo, they're letting the Repulicans do whatever they want in hopes
