It seemed to have missed your attention, but we have to eat a lot
of sugar each day to survive; about 2000 to 3000 calories. We can
replace some of that with amino acids. Or mitochondria can can
oxidise glucose or amino acid. And we need teeny amounts of other
substamces, but it mostly sugar.
The problem is we have gotten too efficient at finding sugar to
eat. Thousands of years ago we took all day every day gatherring
enough sugar. Now we can fulfill out sugar requirement in a few
minutes. But we still have the same reward/crave system that
evolution used to keep us alive.
