Master Chefs are selected based on genetic markers that tend to favour
an aptitude for the gourmet. Little is known about them except that
they are kidnapped as children and then trained under mysterious
conditions to bring out their genetic cooking potential. The use of
Master Chefs is illegal in most Federal and Alliance systems, but is
regarded as a sign of high status in many Imperial systems. Many
anti-slavery protest groups have tried to free Master Chefs from their
life of culinary bondage, yet due to their training, most return of
their own free will to serve. Theirs is a life of servitude - they know
nothing but to cook.

Elite was a good game. It had those infestations that would ruin your
series of saved games. By the time the weebles were crawling all over
your viewscreen, you had already saved three or four times overwriting
any way back to your former success. That's kind of the nemesis of powersaving, that you have an unwinnable game for some reason or other.
I'm concerned about my Escape From the Pit save that I will not have
enough Piercing Crystals for example. I'm pretty sure I used two
crystals to get at a spell tome twice, and you only need to get there
once. I haven't given up. There's a rumor that Dispel Barrier will be available if I follow up on the quest from King Micah.
For a long time I had a cover photo on Facebook detailing what I missed
out on in Elite by being too safe with my reputation. Some light
dabbling in piracy could have been the spark that gave me Deadly. My
friend gave me this game as a present and it was one of the best for the C-64. I'd like to see more today using outline graphics. I told them
on games.action that framerate is everything and they are too sour about
it to respond, next to their smoking piles of computers from playing the latest modern fire bombs.
A good graphics engine doesn't have to tax a modern computer, as seen
with later Far Cry games.
However, Elite Dangerous Odyssey sometimes has fits that drops
the frame rate to about 20/fps (or worse). Haven't seen
that lately though, so hopefully they're continuing to work
the bugs out. (Bugs that should never have been released,
but FDEV is publically-traded, so isn't always going to act
in the game's best interests.)
Anyway, for folks who don't "get it", I wanted to
mention that people who play first-person games
actually get immersed in the environment,
just like being immersed in a book.
So it doesn't need to involve a virtual reality helmet,
the person is in the "virtual reality" already, interacting
with the environment. And it doesn't have to be "player vs. player",
there's also "player vs. environment" (PVE) which some folks find
to be more fun.
As for virtual environments, you are on the right
track, Sir: frame rate counts for a _lot_.
