Stan, how in the world do you try to connect that with "conservative".
That is clearly old school Democratic party racism under President F.D.Roosevelt and Harry Truman, who was President until 1953. Pure
    Democratic sin.

The issue of slavery was a significant catalyst for the establishment of
the Republican Party in the United States during the 1850s.Democrats
supported expanding slavery at the outbreak of the Civil War.

President Abraham Lincoln played a pivotal role in ending slavery in the
United States, primarily through the Emancipation Proclamation and the subsequent 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
    Here's a more detailed explanation:
    Emancipation Proclamation (1863):
On January 1, 1863, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation
Proclamation, declaring that all persons held as slaves in Confederate
states "are, and henceforward shall be free".
    13th Amendment (1865):
Following the Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil War, the 13th
Amendment to the Constitution was ratified in 1865, formally abolishing
    slavery throughout the United States.

Lynching or any other form of mob violence anywhere is a disgrace to any civilized state, and we favor the prompt enactment of legislation to end
    this infamy.
One of the basic principles of this Republic is the equality of all
individuals in their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. This principle is enunciated in the Declaration of
Independence and embodied in the Constitution of the United States; it
was vindicated on the field of battle and became the cornerstone of this Republic. This right of equal opportunity to work and to advance in life
should never be limited in any individual because of race, religion,
color, or country of origin. We favor the enactment and just enforcement
of such Federal legislation as may be necessary to maintain this right
at all times in every part of this Republic.
We favor the abolition of the poll tax as a requisite to voting.
We are opposed to the idea of racial segregation in the armed services
    of the United States.

but it was not until much later
"Truman signed Executive Order 9981 on July 26, 1948, calling for the desegregation of the U.S. Armed Forces, "

    ------------------
It was the filthy evil Democratic Party that insisted on maintaining,
and expanding slavery. The Republican Party was founded mainly to
oppose slavery and it took Abraham Lincoln winning the Presidency to
free the slaves in 1863 and 1865.
The Republican Party was for ending the discrimination of the Democrats.
