“If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.” ― W.C. Fields
Unfortunately, all the "anti-censorship" communities on Reddit like r/RedditCensorship and r/DeclineIntoCensorship are largely supportive of transphobic discourse, so the Usenet is the only place that is left
where I can express my views. It's not a completely polished document,
but it's largely ready for production use.
While most TERF arguments are already refuted, there are no resources
that explain why TERF ideology is a cult-like in many of its aspects.
The author of this essay explains the mind-control techniques that are
used by adherents of the TERF religion to recruit new members and keep
them in.
The adherents of TERF cult are being isolated away from others through invite-only websites like Ovarit and heavily censored forums like reddit.com/r/detrans. Only those who show the obedience to the group
rules are let in. Anyone that doesn't agree with TERF ideology is banned
and blocked, preventing people from thinking for themselves.
The obedience to the TERF propaganda is rewarded through other cult
members heavily upvoting and giving postitive comments. If they do not,
they are being gaslighted, slurs are thrown at them, downvoted into the
black hole and banned from participating to enforce the belief in TERF
dogma in the victim.
The cult has been successful at limiting access to the life-saving gender-affirming care through spreading debunked and outdated
misinformation and using fear, uncertainty and doubt techniques, despite
the overwhelming amount of evidence that gender-affirming treatment is effective. The goal of gender-affirming treatment is to support the
person psychologically, explore the gender identity, etc. and to provide hormones and surgery when the person is ready for that.
When propagating "alternative treatments for gender dysphoria" for which evidence is not available, it is important to undermine one's trust for evidence-based medicine. In order to achieve that, carefully-picked
stories of detransition, transgender regret stories and cherry picked
research is chosen, without citing the work that delegitimize the claim.
Any attempt to refute TERF arguments results in gaslighting the good guy.
The book Irreversible Damage was written by Abigail Shrier, who is a /journalist/, not a medical or mental health expert. The transphobic
community treats the book like a sort of anti-transmasculine Bible,
despite being full of misinformation, biological and medical
inaccuracies, logical fallacies, and propaganda.
When the child "comes out as transgender", TERFs are ready to decry
their child's true gender identity as the sign of ROGD, despite the
study being 200% bullshit that doesn't prove anything (
https://genderexpressive.wordpress.com/2018/09/14/rapid-onset-gender-dysphoria-a-rebuttal-of-the-lisa-littman-study/).
The psychological techniques used by TERFs are very well suited to the
task. Children of transphobic parents are unlikely to come out to them,
because they know what can happen if they came out to them, which
shouldn't be surprising considering they go on these propaganda websites
in the first place.
In order to stop other people from understanding what they say, a secret language is used. For example, the word "transgenderism" means either
being transgender or transitioning, and words like "TRA" actually don't
mean trans right activist but everyone who disagrees with TERF talking
points. To have an excuse to misgender trans people, slurs like "TIM"
and "TIF" are used. They mean trans-identified male/female, with their
AGAB being used here. We all know that being transgender isn't a choice,
but transition and being honest about it is.
All the attempts to fight against the falsehoods of the TERF ideology
are called out as an attempt to slilence them or censor the content.
Even if mainstream social media platforms deny TERF content, they have
the absolutely any right to do so and if you don't agree with that, you
are free to launch your own website or come here on Usenet.
Any criticism towards the group is called out as "misogyny" and
"lesbophobia", when, in fact, the TERF community itself is anti-feminist
and strongly associated with the political right. A lot of trans women, including the author of text, are lesbians and removing cis lesbians
would actually be contradictory to the goals of LGBT movement.
The group skews a person's idea in the mind of believers of what 'hate'
means. To accomplish that, the barriers of what constitues hate are
raised. Misgendering, using slurs housing and healthcare discrimination
against transgender people aren't considered hate in the TERF community.
Being with transphobes like this can make trans people depressed and
suicidal. They use the fact what transphobia has done with these
individuals as "proof" that transgender people are mentally ill. In
TERFs mind, transphobia begins only when physical violence is being used.
There is general distrust for anyone outside their group, no matter how
logical they are and how much contradicting evidence there is. Despite
false claims that "detransitioners" are being silenced, those
transphobic are, in fact, very very loud in mainstream right-wing media.
A propaganda campaign against detransition communities that disagree
with TERF ideology like r/actual_detrans is ran by TERFs in order to
stop critical thought. Transgender community tends to be supportive of transgender people, though it's so rare that trans people often don't
know how to help those people.
Once sucked in into the world of TERF ideology, thinking along
alternative lines causes feeling of guilt, anxiety and person starts
denying what they read from scientific and transgender resources. It is
much easier, therefore, to warn people against the dangers of TERF
ideology, rather than extract them once they are so in they can't be
pulled out anymore. Transgender activists should make a special effort
to reach those near the TERF black hole, those still approaching the
event horizon, rather than having crossed it.
--
There is no verifiable evidence that gender dysphoria can be treated in
other ways than transitioning. None whatsoever.
Gender-affirmative trans care *requires* therapy. That is, unless you go
the informed consent route, which you can always refuse to.
Scaring trans people away from transitioning and repressing their
identities *IS* conversion therapy.
