    Thanks Richard! It's been a while but I'm still looking. Since then I've discovered my William John was a highly skilled pastry-chef and a native French speaker but British. He also looks white in a photograph but would go very dark in the sun.

    Thanks Tony! Were "outside children" registered? I understand the reason for the coloured blood but am puzzled by your mention of Jewish - were they plentiful in the islands?
