In other words "we *demand* subsidy", whether it's in the form of pure subsidy, or subsidised shipbuilding or other non-viable industries, or indeed the replacement work that your Labour friends have since
provided you with - a disproportionately high amount of goverment

The Falkland Islanders whose names appear on the memorials to the

I hope you get your Lib/Lab pact and I hope it results in a real Tory government towards the end of this year. Then you can feel reallyAmen to all that.

britain wasn't 'living on service industries'...although
fascist 'new' labour have gone a long way down that road
what you call 'industries' were in fact make-work operations
for labour's union paymasters and subsidised by those actually
working usefully
doubtless you hate the idea of your subsidies and other dole
payments being removed from the back of real workers
of course you won't vote for that..
and neither would any professional parasite
coal can be imported from south america cheaper than it
can be deep mined in the uk...and without black lung or
a life in the bowels of the earth....
the same with the rest of your dream world
It's not that simple. For example with ships, it's not as if nobody
makes them anymore now is it!
the unions made it impossible to make ships profitable in the uk
Companies can diversify into different areas - leasure boats for
example.
Never a good idea to get your nat resources from another country -
they can always put up the price.
large numbers of countries are queuing up to sell coal
Cheap one day then expensive the next. Work, whether it be artificial
or otherwise is good for a nation. Keeps upo the moral.
if you take money from profitable business and give it
to make-work you send productive companies bankrupt
you raise prices for everyone
The UK was a miserable place in the 1980s with all that unemployment
and unrest.
that is the inevitable result of building on sand....
the problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other
people's money...
yet again socialism has done that to britain despite being
handed a sound economy after thatcher primarily cleaned
up the last mess left by socialism
socialism always destroy wealth and thence freedom
Not socialism - the banks. It is outright capatilism that has caused
the present troubles. It is like a game of monopoly to them but at
some point the money has to be paid back.
Banks want to make a quick buck out of all those loans. In a
socialist country you wouldn't get access to all this money lending.

They will have to spend some more money of course on Scotland and
Wales. We'll get some of our oil money back at last.

I wasn't aware she closed them down.
I just thought she stopped propping them up with taxpayers money.

It says on Etons web site that 30 boys don't pay any fees at all. That is just the sort of attitude that makes it harder for LibLab to
Wow!! are we supposed to be thankful?
The days of privilige and toff upper class gits running our country
are numbered. Lets hope Labour can cling to power.
Not that I support Labour either you will understand - it's just the
best of two horrbible outcomes for Scotland. This way the SNP can put
a bit of pressure in the right places and squeeze them.

keeping the Tories out!

Other nations are doing rather well subsidising industries you claim
to be non-viable. The French with cars, the Koreans with shipbuilding. Obviously we just subsidise the gambling industry (aka investment
banking)
