Polish Antifa member will be charged after recording himself
burning country's flag
by: Hannah Nightingale 11/13/2023
An Antifa member in Poland has been charged after posting
a video to social media of himself burning the country’s flag
on the nation’s independence day. Daniel Kamieniecki has
been accused of publicly destroying or damaging a sign or
symbol of the state.
"Every anti-fascist should once in his life, at least once in his
life, set fire to the flag of the nation in which he grew up," an
English translation of the video states.
Polish member of parliament Dariusz Matecki posted to X
that the Anti-Polonism Monitoring Center, a non-profit he
founded, will be sending a notification to the prosecutor's
office regarding the incident.
Photos on Kamieniecki’s Facebook show the Antifa member
marching with others on November 11, carrying Antifa
flags. He also posed photos of previous years, with photos
going as far back as 2015, and Kamieniecki sporting an
Antifa flag or other item in each.
Kamieniecki was seen posting about the march days in
advance, showing signs and graffiti on the streets, as well
as an Antifa-themed cake.
Antyfaszystowska Warszawa, the group to which he belongs,
according to his Facebook page, organized a direct action
for Poland’s Independence Day. "We will dance in the name
of freedom and equality," a website for the event stated.
"Regardless of our effort, it is also in your hands how loud,
numerous and colorful this year's demonstration will be!
Unlike Nazis, we do not receive state subsidies, nor do
we have powerful sponsors," an English translation of
the website reads.
Tens of thousands of people honoring "God, family, and
Fatherland" marched through the streets of Warsaw on
Saturday, according to Fox News.
