1. Newt Gingrich also visited Taiwan before. But he had asked and got China's permission first. In contrast, Pelosi did not bother to consult Beijing.
2. Donald Trump was ignorant about the "One China" principle. Previous US leaders had kind of hide the significance of the "One China" principle from Trump, from the US Congress in general and from the people.
Not possible for China as US consistently showing disrespect and disregard to China.
America is under the threat of a second civil war. Many hope to mend internal polarization with an external enemy.
Under this situation,
1.) conflating Democratic Politic with Democratic Governance, the former a process and the latter the end result,
2.) making ritualistic voting to divide nations in democratic and authoritarian will make coexisting difficult.
In addition, American ignorance concerning global consensus on the status of the ROC under the ONE CHINA
principle-- the results of US Governmental secrecy and media misinformation, makes ROC (Taiwan) as a hot
spot.
For some reason, a segment of American commentariat also convince themselves of China at peak power. This
makes military conflict with China kind of inescapable and imminent.
