Quotable Quotes from Richard Beck on history who's book Homeland:The War
in Terror on American life which also gives people “a framework for
figuring out how to think about politics, living under a government
that’s so uninterested in being responsive to democratic input.”

“...history is something you have to try to understand even as you live through it.”

The famous words of Zhuangzi is 吾生也有涯,而知也无涯 。以有涯随无涯,殆已!
In English, "My life is limited, but knowledge is limitless. To pursue
the limitless with one's limited life is a perilous undertaking! "

Richard Beck is not contradicting Zhuangzi. Rather, he is giving a
minimalist answer to Zhuangzi's words. Every person is the sum of all
what one has lived through. To have a richer life, i.e. the greater than
the sum of parts, does require one to understand what one has lived
    through.

That helps, but it is much more important to know yourself, at the core, outside of experience.

You can do this, Dr. Lee. I know you can.
