    Take THE worst neighborhoods in THE worst American
    cities and expand them to nation size. That's pretty
    much what Haiti is like. Makes Mexico's gangster and
    corruption problems seem trival.

    News footage right after the assassination showed
    the streets of the capitol STILL choked with concrete
    rubble from the earthquake a good decade on now.

    I know a number of Haitians, and for the most part they
    are earnest and industrious and quite intelligent. However
    they just CANNOT get their collective shit together.
    No "big picture".

    Ten, twenty, fifty years from now Haiti will STILL be at
    the very bottom of the heap. Law and Justice will still
    comprise giving rivals "the chop". Sort of a western
    Afghanistan.

    Something just went VERY wrong there, a lot wronger than
    anyplace in the world. You'd think throwing off the French
    colonials/slavemasters so early would have resulted in
    better - but no. Whatever that magic "it" is, Haiti
    missed it.
