Various stories on UK media over the past week :

A UK doc who moved to the USA spoke of the US system
as being quite 'chaotic' and with schedules she said
would literally cause a 'riot' in the UK.

    Kinda true there.

She also noted that US docs vastly over-use
CT scans, subjecting patients to a LOT of
radiation. Saw that personally a little more
than a year ago. The contrast dye was interesting
however, a giant wave of 'heat'.

What she didn't entirely get is the extremely
litigious aspect of the privatized US system.

In short, lawyers are circling like sharks all
the time, looking for ANY tiny flaw. The good
ones can extract many millions over the tiniest
possible issue. Juries can almost always be
persuaded to render HUGE verdicts. Drives costs
    through the roof.

As a result, docs HAVE to over-test, cover
their asses six ways to Sunday.

Now, if you keep any track of UK news, there
are weekly, or more, horror stories of docs
    totally MISSING deadly conditions. People
ARE dying in droves. Their NHS is is a serious
state of decomposition and is NOT going to get
any better. LOADS dying horribly, warehoused
on gurneys in hallways for days/weeks. NASTY.

So ... while the comments of the UK doc are
interesting, it's clear she doesn't get the
Big Picture or either USA or UK medicine.

IMHO ... and it's not the greatest thing ... it
is time to put some hard limits/rules on the
"malpractice" lawsuits. A few would get screwed,
but the bulk would see much smaller bills and
the lawyers would have to get jobs at Starbucks.

    Not anymore.

    Most states have "tort reform"
laws that cap all damage awards at
    fixed amount.
