Scientists from the University of Sharjah in the United
Arab Emirates and China's Hefei University of Technology
have developed a method to build durable and lasting asphalt
pavements that can withstand rutting and cracking due to
    low temperatures and heavy loads.

They believe the method could reduce overall costs that
normally accompany the purchasing and maintenance of
expensive road durability testing equipment and improve
testing of asphalt to make sure it holds up well in cold
    and hot weather.

Now the scientists claim their technology can produce
the type of asphalt binders with the ability to weather
pavement cracking and rutting and shorten training time
for operators to learn how to use sophisticated asphalt
binder devices to make asphalt roads more resistant and
    lasting.

    . . .

This is good. Asphalt is cheap, but often not nearly
as durable as desired. Concrete is better, but vastly
    more energy-intensive.

Oh, anti-oil people, DO note that asphalt is a left-over
from petroleum distillation. No more oil = no more
asphalt = no more roads. Old asphalt CAN be recycled,
but only to a POINT ... it's never as good as fresh
    stuff.

What we also need is better asphalt road PATCHING
materials. New asphalt has more volatiles, so while
you can pack it in a hole it soon SHRINKS, comes
loose, and you have a BIGGER hole.

Yea yea, the further left wants us all riding
bikes like good little Maoist slaves and really
doesn't want us GOING much of ANYWHERE so we
can't exchange info/experiences that may undermine
the political 'truths'. Your town is your prison.

Also, many older people CAN'T ride bikes. They
will fall over or get vein blockages or heart
attacks. They need GOOD roads - and maybe some
"JohnnyCabs" that self-drive to wherever needed
and DON'T crash into stuff. Self-driving has
IMPROVED considerably, but it ain't quite there
yet ... 'weird' situations and bad weather confuse
it a little too often yet.
