Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Lee Curtis (1983)
This is one of the more interesting comedies from
the era - and both joyfully absurd and socially
on-target.
Quick Synopsis ... two old kinda-racist Big Capitalist
stock lord brothers make a bet - one dollar - that
their golden boy (Aykroyd) can be replaced with a street
scum (Murphy). They conspire to destroy Aykroyd and
push Murphy into a big mansion/high-life, where
Murphy's market instincts DO prove valuable.
But, of course, he's a negro ... so it can't be
entertained for long.
Curtis plays a hooker who takes an interest
in the destroyed Akyroyd - and she's good
at the role. Curtis was always undervalued
by Hollywood, IMHO.
In the end, both parties become aware of the
vast conspiracy and plot revenge on the
brothers, to beat them at their own game.
There are various plot perturbations.
In any case, this is a FUN movie and WORTH
watching.
