"Trading Places" - 1983 - Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy,
Jamie-Lee Curtis
Two old financial-pro brothers invent a "social
experiment" where they destroy one of their own
clique - Aykroyd - and elevate a street person
to his position just to see what happens. It's
a bet - one dollar - as to how it turns out.
The plot involves a lot of commodities trading,
gold, but also orange juice.
Curtis plays a prostitute with a heart of gold
who invests in Aykroyd, and does it well. She
was always under-used by the industry - only
came to really shine in "True Lies".
Murphy does a great job of playing a street
guy who rises to the occasion - and Aykroyd
does equally well playing a "white priv"
boy sent down to the gutter.
Let's say it all works out at the end, but
it's complicated. A good comedy from
yesteryear !
