Speaker Mike Johnson delivered a presentation at a weekend
GOP retreat that — although it was billed as a map to keeping
the House majority — took on a surprisingly religious tone,
according to two people in the room.

Johnson’s private remarks to a small group of Republican
lawmakers at Miami’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel over the weekend
alarmed both people, who addressed the speech on condition of
anonymity. Rather than outlining a specific plan to hold and
grow the majority, these people said, Johnson effectively
    delivered a sermon.

The speaker contended that when one doesn’t have God in
their life, the government or “state” will become their
guide, referring back to Bible verses,

    . . .

While I kinda get what he was aiming at, seems he did
it rather badly. Also, you should ALWAYS be nervous
when politicians start talking "god" - their motives
    are generally anything but religious.

Religions are oft considered the over-guide, a set
of principles/ethics beyond what any State can offer.
It's why the commies in particular immediately try
to stamp out religion - they tolerate no Truth or
Authority above and beyond their own.

Alas there are at least a hundred religions and while
they tend to agree on a few things they also can be
widely divergent on a lot of other things. So, WHAT
god(s) are supposed to guide you and your nation ?
We mostly just seem to get a bunch of politicized
preachers, supposedly speaking for their god(s)
    but tilting things politically.

Most Americans really do not want a religious State
like those Islamic regimes. The God-n-Country thing
sold pretty well in the USA during the 50s/60s part
of the Cold War - but that faded away. Those of us
old enough will remember the mandatory pledges and
prayers in the schools back then. Got to be a drag,
indeed hypocrisy, real quick. Took on a "God WANTS
us to napalm those heathen villagers !" tone.
