Experts have issued a vital warning against a popular
'skin-healing' supplement that can lead to seizures,
kidney damage and even turn your skin blue.

The product, which can be taken as an oral supplement
or applied to the skin in liquid form, is called colloidal
silver - a mixture of tiny metal particles mixed with water,
said to have miraculous wound-repairing properties.

On TikTok, fans tout its benefits for a range of skin
conditions like eczema, and claim the oral supplements,
costing between $15-20 can help fight off infections.

One of the most high-profile advocates is Oscar-winning
actor Helen Mirren, who recently revealed she keeps a $16
colloidal silver healing ointment in her makeup bag in
    case of skin emergencies.

    . . .

There's a big diff between a little dab for a cut
or whatever and continual full-body doses.

Silver - esp in easily-absorbed collodial form -
can be very toxic. It is not a wonder-cure or
    anti-aging panacea. It's a "heavy metal" and
    can POISON you.

Short of dying, one of the weirder effects is that
the skin can take on a distinct blue/grey color
that might NOT go away - being composed of insoluble
    silver compounds.

    "Trend-mining".

Find old stuff everyone has forgotten and resurrect
it as the "latest greatest thing".

On the odd TV networks there's been a nearly complete
resurrection of the old 'ancient aliens' and 'ghosts'
shows from the early 70s. New faces, exact same old
    shit with similarly nutso 'hosts'.

Yes, I'm old enough to remember the colloidal silver
craze. I remember a lot of people having bad effects
too - but TicTok doesn't MENTION that ......

Admittedly, you usually have to consume a fair amount
of the stuff over time to get the awful effects - but
some True Believers clearly DO, absolutely convinced
    it's a cure-all. TikToc encourages that.

Now a dab of silver-containing creme to discourage
infections in cuts and such ... no problem. Just
think "local use only" - don't swallow the shit.

Maybe I should float that out on TikTok. I knew some people in the '90s
that were big on 'oxygen therapy'. This isn't your supermarket 3% stuff.

Speaking of nutters when Bp Gritz was running for president in '92 he
spoke here and was big on h2o2 for curing AQIDS. It was amusing talk. It
was held at the university and some hairy legged jock in his girlfriend's
dress was trolling him. I've got to say he handled it with more aplomb
    than some current people.

Many years back I did some work for a doc who made big $$$
from "oxygen drips" ... basically IV peroxide. Didn't
really help anyone ... but the peroxide was low enough
not to kill 'em either. Not ALL used such low levels
    of peroxide though ......

During the Covid thing there were VAST quantities of
bogus "cures" ... and not just from the "Right".
Everybody was looking for a quick fix - and The
Science or even Sense be damned. Panic has its
    consequences .....

Some of the very weird chemical cocktails being
promoted these days ... oft involving "grey
market" drugs bought online ... are VERY worrisome.
    "Anti-aging"/"anti-cancer" ... no shortage of
profitable Snake Oil out there ............

Even super-pop stuff like Ozempic ... SO many people
taking a relatively new med ....... BET on a lot of
horrible side-effects shortly down the line. Same
goes for the old/new psych drugs like Ketamine
and psychedelics. Just WAIT for the wave of 1st-gen
    mRNA "fixes" .....
