. . .
There IS a LEGAL reason ... under FEDERAL law, weed
is still ILLEGAL. This could theoretically put the
corp in a bad place. The "Commerce Clause" gives
the Fed a LOT of reach. MC does biz in every US state
AND across the world - where, in some places, weed
means long imprisonment or even a death penalty.
I expect the other card companies to follow this
lead, for the same reasons.
Now yea, what will get you burnt at the stake in
a few odd 4th-world shitholes cannot justify an
entire corporate policy. WHATEVER it is, SOME
country hates it. Watching "Green Acres" in Iran
is probably a torture/death offense - Eva Gabor
didn't wear a hijab in public !!!
So, MC at least has to consider US/EU drug laws.
Whether there's an actual "anti-weed" sentiment
at the corp ... somehow I doubt it ... they're
just covering their asses, esp if there's a big
GOP swing next election.
Hmm ... is this a big-corp PROJECTION of a big
GOP win ???
