'I thought I was going to die': Woman, 21, severely injured
in 'Dukes of Hazzard-style' crash where she flew 120ft through
the air slams tow truck driver for parking in the middle of
the road - and says she still has nightmares about the incident
. . .
Ya know, I can kinda sympathize here. Just for fun,
park yer car on the margin lane on any interstate
and start your stopwatch. The chances of someone
blasting it from behind are VERY high. You see this
all the time on those cop shows ...
Seems to be a 'psychology' thing ... you see a car
in a lane and just subconsciously assume it's a
DRIVING lane and pull in behind. That it's not
moving - that's kinda hard to discern from even
a little distance. The "getting bigger" effect
isn't obvious until you're TOO near.
In THIS case, the tow truck had its bed tilted
down, further obscuring what it was and thus
diluting the usual "getting bigger" cues. To
the highway-hypnotized it just looked like a
patch of darker pavement.
