A former Google CEO has warned that artificial intelligence
be used to kill people in the future.
Eric Schmidt - who spent two decades at the helm of the search
giant, told a gathering of senior executives Wednesday that he
believes AI presents an 'existential risk' for humanity
'defined as many, many, many, many people harmed or killed.'
The software PhD said the technology, which Google is helping
spearhead through its relatively primitive Bard chatbot system -
could be 'misused by evil people' when it becomes more advanced.
Schmidt, who recently chaired the US National Security Commission
on AI, is the latest in a slew of former Google staffers to come
out publicly against the rapid development of the technology in
recent weeks.
. . .
Of interest - and distinction - Schmidt seems less focused
on "Terminator" bullshit and more on the use of 'AI' to
create customized biological weapons.
Yes, it could be. The AIs can run a thousand biological
sims a minute as easily as they can run a thousand other
kinds of software and military sims a minute.
It IS theoretically possible to fabricate diseases that
target a specific 'race' - or even more narrowly a group
with, for example, a specific diet or some other social/
cultural commonality. Such diseases could impair, or even
kill ... but "impair' is better because of the strain it
induces on the existing System. Covid was apparently an
accident - but what if someone wanted to DELIBERATELY crash
nations or populations ?
Hmm ... I remember an old novel by Frank Herbert ('Dune')
called "The White Plague" - about a bio-attack that mostly
targeted women people via advances in genetic engineering.

Yes, it CAN be done - and now in even more genetic detail.
It'd take humans a LONG time to work out such details,
but not "AI's".
Hmmmmmmmm ... is Gen-Z *proof* of such an attack ? :-)
Frankly, I think the biggest, and most immediate, threat
of "AI" is the destruction of "people-jobs" - with huge
consequences. Many of the Big Players are very eager to
dump all their humans - and there's NO plan for how to
DEAL with so many 'obsolete' humans. How do they live ?
DO they live ???
Oh yea, broke people can't BUY shit - it's the gotcha in
the whole human-replacement-fer-higher-profits plan ...
