    why does alternating move in one direction?
    how can it go back and forth and move forward
    like direct current?
    How does the electron do both?
    Everything electricity is direct current.

    Current flows at an average speed of much less than one inch per second in most DC appliances at home. So does AC: zero inches per second, on average.

    DC flows in the East direction at 6AM.
    DC flows in the West direction at 6PM.
    AC flows in the East direction at 6:00:00.00000 AM
    AC flows in the West direction at 6:00:00.00833 AM
    AC is like DC in that respect.
