  • cracking magnetic lines

    In a report of recent solar observations, it stated that
    during storms, the magnetic lines of force break
    into pieces, then re-attach.

    What does that mean? Magnetic flux isn't a solid
    object, which breaks, then solidifies.

    It would imply that the net magnetic field comes from multiple sources
    whose relative alignments change during storms.
