Does anybody know why the huge container ship

I looked at the aerial photo of the situation. That
is one big ship. Given the scenario my first question
is, is a pilot required for the traverse?
Yes
It looks like the ship is threading a needle. I don't know
anything about such ships. But is it as simple as
going to slowly?
I think a pilot is required here in the DC area for the
trip up the Chesapeake Bay to Baltimore. Here
there are no channel sand boundaries, just
a few buoys.
Anyways,
Does going to slow possibly cause a confused steerage?
Do the cannel sides provide a centering force
meaning the sides cause a friction like force?
Faster mean more centering force. Is this required?
There are thousands of ships traversing the Canal every year.
And I almost guarantee that this isnt the first canal blockage nor will
it be the last.
And in spite of Master Mariners and pilots skills the canal is to narrow
for this generation of container ships
