  • Eyeglasses And AR Coatings Question ?

    Hello,

    For "every day" regular glasses, do (most) folks these
    days get them with AR coatings ? (Front and back ?)

    Why ?

    Is there any tint at all if I get with ?

    Pros and cons ?

    No idea what most people do, but they're far too expensive for me (I buy
    the cheapest frames and lenses available!) to consider. Perhaps if I
    put someone else's on I would see why people pay extra for them.
    Apparently they, like other coatings, are fairly fragile.

    Years ago this group was active and discussed things like this
    regularly, with genuine optical professionals contributing. You might
    use "google groups" to search this group for info -- I'm sure it's there
    and I doubt that the technology is much different now.

    Hi Bob, AR is a must. The licensed optician in me can't recommend it enough, as well as my personal preference. It's like adding an extra layer of protection to the lens. Most importantly, it eliminates glare. Glare blocks around 10%+ of light from
    reaching your pupil. Additionally, there are coatings now that can block some of the harmful bluelight wavelengths from computer/phone screens. Bluelight suppresses melatonin and can speed up eye disease. Again, AR is a must for me. Cheap coatings can
    make people never want to get it again. If you get a super thick coating that is embedded in the material, it will be a whole different experience. Cleans better and lasts longer.
