Vernal Equinox (20 March) - well, that happens everywhere*. But it seems
to be a public holiday only in Japan.

春分の日, Shunbun no Hi [spring-division 's day] has been called that only since 1948, replacing the Shinto Shunki Kōreisai (春季皇霊祭) [spring-season
imperial-spirit-festival] "Like other Japanese holidays, this holiday
was repackaged as a non-religious holiday for the sake of separation of religion and state in Japan's postwar constitution."

*Except that it's Autumnal down here. Hey, Wiki just gave me "Northward Equinox", which I guess everybody could be happy with.
