• Tim Berners-Lee submits a proposal (12-3-1989)

From Ross Clark@21:1/5 to All on Wed Mar 13 23:14:31 2024
"Information and management: a proposal", submitted to CERN, to address
the question "...how will we ever keep track of such a large project?"

The proposal uses the image of "a 'web' of notes with links (like
references) between them...like a diagram of circles and arrows, where
circles and arrows can stand for anything'.

Later that year, TB-L "implemented the first successful communication
between a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) client and server via the Internet." (Wiki)

And that, children, is how it all began....

You say on Usenet, a non-WWW communication protocol! Plenty of email sent too, plenty of Whatsapp, SMS. But yes, the web was a huge step.
