One of the first books I ever read in english was a combo Castle Rackrent + The Absentee. I liked it a lot, but must admit I don’t recall the regional variety thing.
I read her as a teenager (in Ireland), and similarly I don’t recall that aspect
of it. I have found previously that I may not notice if a regional accent (in speech) is close to my own, something similar may be at the root of it for me, but presumably not for you!
