English has 44 phonemes - we deal with it by using pairs of letters.
The latin alphabet we use served to represent the Latin spoken in Rome,
and didn't do a very good job of that either.
Russian Cyrillic uses 33 characters - I learned them when I was
undergraduate doing Science Russian.
Korean does have an alphabet which was devised to suit the language, but
the Koreans had to kick out the Japanese before it became the official alphabet, a few centuries after it was devised.
