We use the Efinix parts. The T20 is $10, but they have some $3 parts,
not that a few dollars often matter. There's no fundamental reason
that a mid-sized FPGA should be expensive... it just needs a bit of IP
and some wafers from TSMC.
I think Intel had some idea of using the Altera FPGAs in data centers
or something grand like that. Gigabuck blunder.
Intel is going the way of Kodak or Studebaker or Xerox.
