That's NOT about a percentage of the Earth's surface. It's all about the
human POPULATION.
Human population is NOT spread uniformly across the Earth's surface.
Then, it's NOT direct Solar illumination. The percent of human
POPULATION include peoples located the twilight area, all to way to astronomical twilight when we still receive a tiny amount of sunlight
scattered by the upper atmosphere.
