Birefringence is a classical phenomena. Although it’s a complex set=
up that takes a while to untangle it is obvious no actual quantum magic is = >involved in this experiment. Just a very hi tech classical imaging system. = >Probably very difficult to conduct and not practical technologically at thi= >s point in time anyways. Given the sophistication and attention to accuracy=
the setup needs to function properly. As the paper itself admits.
In this cited experiment a BBO crystal splits the one incident laser beam i= >nto two oppositely polarised coherent beams of wave only light. So far this=
is purely a classical phenomena. Nothing to do with QT. The paper even pre=
tends that using just one of the two split beams from the BBO crystal is a = >classical image. But when both split beams are recombined at the detector u= >sing a coincidence counter this somehow becomes quantum magic. !?
Nonsense. It is using the Birefringent effect to produce two very narrow co= >herent beams. Both found on either side of the main beam exiting the BBO cr= >ystal.(As also used in the Kim et al ‘Delayed choice’ qt ex=
periment) Both beams are coherent to each other and oppositely polarised. O= >ne beam only is focused on the sample and the other, the idler beam, travel= >s through the setup unimpeded. The two beams are then recombined at the Coi= >ncidence counting camera. Which only uses light from the sample beam that i= >s matched coherently in time to the idler beam. This filters out the excess=
stray light that is inherent in the system. For instance a control test is= made in the paper where excess”noise” (light ) is injected=
after the two coherent beams are split to pollute the final image. The set=
up will thus not use any of the noise that isn’t “tagged=
as being from the sample beam. (Tagged,..that is coherent with the i=
dler beam ) It’s kind of like a filtering or masking process that u=
ses the special properties of two coherent beams of wave light to edit out = >any other extraneous light.
And this obviously produces a much clearer image. Admittedly an effective p= >rocess
BUT...Nothing to do with entangled magic quantum rabbits.
Thanks, interesting link, just reading it.
You may well have a point.
Copenhagen interpretation cats alive and dead at the same time (until measured) and all that,
we all know measurements do effect what me measure, is basic electronics for example.
Not a very sensitive setup, as they admit, 10^5 frames over 17 minutes rules out imaging any even slightly moving
objects... (like living cells).
the quantum theory is just a mathematical attempt to describe reality, has its own traps
and is clearly incomplete.
Usually when something becomes super complex in our theories we have missed the point.
But generations are infused so to speak with Albert E and quantum stuff...
Big promises are made, just like daily promises of better batteries,
with all that; in the sixties we could land people on the moon, and now?
Was watching an other documentary about how we will ?? go to mars, live there for 20 days? and return.
month long journys to and from mars as the travels needs to use the gravitational pull..
Why not use nuclear propulsion, wait until mars is aligned with earth, and go there at very high speed in a few days...
Nuclear fear (there was project 'Daedalus' IIRC for example) has it all cancelled, swapped for NASA's job creation program.
Was watching NASA TV (via satellite) here yesterday too, interesting: interns now speaking about what they do there
lots of sensor stuff, and endless pictures the rest of the time about moon landings in the sixties.
(while) driving around the block... in ISS... endlessly, ..
Same for finding signs of life on mars, Vikinger experiment was positive for life many years ago.
It is deliberately kept out of all documentaries it seems ( I always check for that)
What a lot misguiding people crap.
Build a nuclear powered rocket, go there, bring back - or test some samples, and life is shown to be there
and likely anywhere else as it is as logical to originate as are atoms to form. We are nothing special, just like ants exploring what's out there.
Anyways I still hang on the Le Sage, how nicely that solves all of the light speed problems...
Any kid can grasp that and no mamaticians needed.

project Orion....
Maybe if / when WW3 happens and countries start space wars, some country will use that and then the winner
grabs all (as with V2 technology in WW2) and it will become the normal, everything radiates then anyways :-)
I am still alive after being exposed to at least some Chernobyl fallout...
I think there is more radiation danger in space than here on earth, high energy particles
so several month in a thin walled metal box radiation dose versus one for a few days travelling in a nucelar powered spacecraft,
the total radiation level equipment and people are exposed to may be much lower.
