The image of the Sun I get from a solar telescope is sun disc,
so solar hemisphere is projected to 2D sun disc.

I would like to reverse the projecting, taking sun disc as an input
and spherical hemisphere image as an output, to calculate number of sunspots in spherical geometry.
If you know tools reversing
spherical hemisphere to sun disc projection
just let me know or suggest something.
Is Gimp ok ?
I've tried Gimp in the past, but found it difficult to use. Photoshop
might do what you're looking for. Google something like "Photoshop
polar to rectangular" or similar. Not exactly sure what you're asking,
but the aforementioned might give you a good start. I believe Photoshop
still has a demo period for like 7 days and it is fully functional for
that time. Don't know though, I have been using Affinity Photo for
years. Affinity Photo can do the polar to rectangular conversions too,
but never tried it.
