The world is on the verge of a massive economic collapse.
So... just exactly what evidence do you have to support such a claim?
He may not have convincing evidence of... the *details*... of such
a claim.
However, the Western industrialized world has been in a severe
economic malaise ever since about 1968, with high levels of
unemployment, worsened by the rise of OPEC in 1973.
This has led to unrest, and one recent obvious manifestation of
that was how Donald J. Trump managed to get elected President
of the United States in 2016 - and despite his catastrophic
mismanagement of the COVID pandemic, and despite the events of
January 6, 2021, he still has widespread support in the U.S..
As you may be aware, we have of late seen a significant increase
in extreme weather events that appears to be related to anthropogenic
global warming. Just the other day, I saw a news item about how the
Thwaites glacier in Antarctica might soon give way.
And there are news reports talking about how we may be shifting to
a "multipolar world"; this would be one where Russia conquers
Ukraine *and* the Baltics, Red China conquers Taiwan, and the
male Jews of Israel are exterminated, the females being provided
to Muslim households.
And the war in Ukraine *has* severely impacted food supplies, even
if the people of Europe, North America, and Australia still have
enough to eat.
Another pandemic? Another "Dust Bowl" like in the Thirties? Some
Trump-alike getting elected in the U.S.? Continental Europe getting
Finlandized by the new assertive Russia, so that the UK becomes
the only remaining European member of NATO? The Renminbi
becoming the world's new reserve currency?
Distressing events like that seem less and less unlikely with each
passing day.
Catastrophic famines in the Third World, with China posing as
its savior while the Western democracies are focused on taking
care of themselves, leading to their greater isolation?
Entirely possible; just one more link needs to fail on top of the
Ukraine war - and this is perhaps one reason why some in the
Third World would prefer Ukraine to surrender immediately, so
that the food shipments could return to normal as soon as
possible, not caring about the goals achieved by our aid to
Ukraine.
The world has lots of problems lately, and global warming is allowed
to go on unchecked, making several of them worse. It may take
several decades before its consequences get dramatic, but at the
rate we're going in dealing with it, that won't stop the disaster from
coming.
