I have a lot of sympathy for NASA's problems here.

Bulk fuel tanks for cryogenic LH2 fuel change their dimensions very significantly and hydrogen makes steel go brittle in short order. It can diffuse into the metal matrix.

Sad news is if they miss this next launch window then it will have to go
right back to the starting blocks and have various battery checks/swaps.

Space flight is difficult and dangerous. It should be left to robotics
unless and until we find something that our latest robots cannot handle.

I am with Martin Rees the UK Astronomer Royal on this.

I would personally still like to see one tourist visit to one of the
later Apollo sites just to rub conspiracy theorists noses in it.

The Apollo 11 landing site should be left untouched though.

Do you really believe that isn't part of the plan on the part of one
or more of the people running private launch companies? It's hard to
imagine either Musk or Bezos not being arrogant enough to believe
it's their divine right to do so (and Bezos will leave billboard for
    Amazon behind).

Wouldn't change anything. The conspiracy theorists would just claim
the later visit was faked, too.

The only way to really convince them is to send THEM there to see it.
And indeed, we'd need to insist they remove their helmets, just to
make sure they aren't being fooled by a fancy heads-up display.

I'm afraid that would leave them without minds to change.

Of course, I realize that it might be claimed that this wouldn't
be a change in the situation in that respect.
