• O.T. Can you get Peeps in Europe?

They're all bunnies here, but the iconic Peeps are the
    "Just Born" chicks:

I remember, back in 2005, going to France or Europe
and I was told that they didn't have Peeps.

(It was close to Easter season)

Not that this was earth shattering to me. My God,
they're sugar. That's it. Well, sugar and enough of
something else to keep them together and make
them soft... "Marshmallow" with a dusting of sugar.

If you don't have a sweet tooth then you are risking
    diabetes.

And the true affectionados want them stale!

For real. They want them stale! Fresh they're all
squishy but get them stale and there's some bite
    to them... Marshmallow al dente!

You're supposed to by them, open the package and
then let them sit for a few days... a week.

The funny thing is? Though we aren't evolved to eat
tons of sugar, we do seem evolved to "Spirituality."

No, I'm not saying that overly sweet chicks and bunnies
are spiritual.. or maybe I am. These are EASTER treats.

They're far less seasonal than they were for past
generations, but they're still symbolic. Depending upon
the person they can stand for Easter. Or Spring. Or
childhood. I look at these and I remember being very
young, everyone dressed in their "Easter Best," a
beautiful sunny day... basket filled with brightly colored
plastic "Grass" and topped with more sweets than
could possibly be good for us...

    Symbolism: A distinctly human trait?

Nope. It's a distinctly MODERN human trait!

Many claim that the modern brain, SYMBOLIC THINKING
might be under 100k years old. And it probably is, for
some populations. But there's evidence for it going back
    maybe 400,000 years in Europe.

Could have been everywhere. "Preservation bias," right?

Some say that jewelry is a sure sign, as it has no real
use or value outside of symbolism... wealth.. status...
    possessor of fine things...

I think prepared burials might be some of the best
indications of symbolic thought: Spiritualism, to be
    precise.

There. From squishy sugar bombs to questioning
the evolutionary value in our innate spirituality.
