Option 1: it's turned into new builds

The village voted for 6 new builds using local and historic construction, with 5 bedrooms, for young families, and a price not exceeding £250k. Average house price here is £650k. Yeah that'll happen.

Option 2: it's turned into a pub and village shop, providing the village with local entertainment, amenities, and employment. The locals shot that down because pubs apparently will create youth crime (even though the median age here is 68) and local

retail threatens the character of the village (ie it will lower the house prices which are so vastly overvalued that nobody is buying them)
Basically the attitude here is everyone hates the status quo but nobody is prepared to risk things getting worse
The locals wanted our farmer to buy the land but he just laughed and said he didn't want it
