  • If it walked on two legs, it must be human! - Richard is dead

From [email protected]@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jan 5 05:01:35 2022
If it walked on two legs, it must be human!
Isn't that the criteria which they use to define a hominin? Until they change that definition, they will continue to believe it (despite gibbons, orangutans, gorillas and chimps all being able to walk and run bipedally). F.

Try habitual bipedalism, as reflected by the anatomy of the cranial
base, vertebral collumn, pelvis and lower leg.

That happens to be KNM-ER 406, nowadays considered to be part of the
    hypodigm of Paranthropus boisei: https://humanorigins.si.edu/evidence/human-fossils/fossils/knm-er-406

Recent phylogenetic analysis places Paranthropus as sister to
Kenyanthropus + Homo or a polytomy of Paranthropus + Kenyanthropus +
    Homo:

The one in his left hand is KNM-ER 1470: https://humanorigins.si.edu/evidence/human-fossils/fossils/knm-er-1470

Both were recovered from Koobi Fora, area 10 and 131 respectively.
    Not a coastal environment.

Yes, Richard, like his parents at Olduvai, has made significant
contributions to paleoanthropology by pioneering the paleontological exploration of the Turkana Basin south of the Omo Valley from 1968 on.

    The usual anthropocentric interpretations,
    google "Aquarboreal Ancestors?".

There's a difference between postural and striding bipedalism.
The gerenuk nevertheless has one skeletal adaptation in parallel with
hominins that allows it to stand upright with a lumbar lordosis:
    reduced spinous processes. See:

    https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-319-46646-0_6

    Another important point:
"even prolonged and extensive postural bipedality results
in little or no postcranial remodeling, unless selection
favoring the maintenance of efficient quadrupedal locomotion
    is relaxed."

Humans can climb trees, humans are not arboreal. Just because an animal is capable of rearing up
on it's hind legs doesn't make it bipedal.

That's a remarkable little video. Had only seen pictures before.
